SYÐRI-BREKKUR 2 (Southerly-Hills II), Langanes (Long Peninsula district)

Current occupants: Kristín Kristjánsdóttir and Úlfar Þórðarson

The farmers at SYÐRI-BREKKUR 2 participate in the following national initiatives and projects:

  • Quality managed sheep farming (Gæðastýrð sauðfjárræktun)

  • Farmers cultivate the land (Bændur græða landið)

ÚlfarKristín and Úlfar have pursued farming at SYÐRI-BREKKUR II (Southerly-Hills II) since 1972. Their son, Þórður, recently bought the farm and formally takes over all its assets and liabilities in 2017.

SYÐRI-BREKKUR II are south of SYÐRI-BREKKUR I and own the hayfields on the upper side of the highway road. The area of land of at the foot of the mountain is commonly owned by the two adjacent farms.

Extensive and very good summer grazing fields are on BREKKNAHEIÐI (Hillsides Heaths) above mountain BREKKNAFJALL (Hillsides Mountain), shared by the two adjacent farms. Also, ulfar 1various perquisites are shared by the two farms, including fishing licenses in the two rivers and driftwood on the shore. River FISKAÁ (Fish River) runs from the lakes of FISKÁRVÖTN (Fish River Lakes) to river HAFRALÓNSÁ (Goat-Buck Lagoon River) and marks the borderline of SYÐRI-BREKKUR to the neighbouring farm of HALLGILSSTAÐIR (Hallgils´s Place)

Rock hillocks named SELHÓLAR (Shack Hillocks) are situated quite far from the buildings. The toponyme of this place, as well other places in the area, indicates that shacks for milking sheeps during the summer were operated here in earlier days.

On SYÐRI-BREKKUR is a beautiful tree garden cultivated by Sólveig Indriðadóttir who also constructed a detailed list of toponymes in the land belonging to the farm.
